On Monday April 27th I went into St. John’s hospital for total left hip replacement. This was the bad hip from the 1930′s when I was on crutches for about 3 years.
I remember nothing about the first two days, and of course I have no pictures of this time or anything for the next month and a half. On the third day I remember attending a meeting with others at the hospital going over the do not do’s. A very negative meeting.
After a few days a trainer person started coming to the house to assist me with the exercising that is a must for people under-going a hip replacement. There were really a number of persons over the first month that came to the house until I graduated to the rehab center at St. John’s hospital here in Tulsa.
After 6 weeks I was ok’d to drive a car and this helped. I could go somewhere without asking for help. Mobility was restricted by the “don’t do that or you might knock the new hip out of joint” statement.
The hospital exercises were tough depending on your assigned “person”. Some of these “assigned” people were good and some were studying to be vampires.
Below is one of the home analysts. She’s is in my chair in the living room. Notice the extra cushion she is setting on. The cushion is to help you get up from the setting position by raising the level of the chairs setting surface. You should see the toilet seat.
Moving your pointer over the picture gives a picture title and clicking picture will make the picture larger. To return to the entry, go to the left arrow at the left of the address line.
Below are some of the pictures “someone” took at the Hospital. I really don’t remember anything that happened the first two days after surgery, so I really can’t say a lot about the pictures. I remember being wheeled down to surgery and having to wait because someone hadn’t showed up yet. That was Monday just after noon. The next thing I remember was a meeting with other knee and hip replacement patients, telling us what were the does and dont’s. I think the pain medicine did me in.
