December 24th and 25th Weather

December 25th, 2009

Well, a lot of people always want a white Christmas. Not me.

We had rain starting early on the 24th which changed to sleet around noon and then changed to snow a couple of hours later. Tulsa airport reported 6 inches of snow but I now believe we had a few more inches than the airport. My observation of more snow comes after a day of moving the snow off the driveway. We had winds of 35 to 45 MPH here in Tulsa and temperatures down to 18. An old time blizzard.

Well anyway, we didn’t have a normal Christmas. Everyone was snowed in as highways and streets were blocked or closed. So Marie and I spent the second Christmas in 50 years without the kids. The first Christmas without the kids was the first Christmas after we were married. Anyway, we have  reschedule for Sunday December 27th. Hopefully the wind will stop blowing the snow around and the temperature will get above freezing by Sunday.

My day was spent moving snow off the driveway as you can see in the pictures blow. I’ll feel the shoveling tomorrow.

These first pictures were taken early this morning.

Family Lost A Member

December 25th, 2009

This past August we lost a family member after a long illness. Vladie (Val) Martin passed away on the 20th of August, 2009. We were blessed with seeing Val every so many years when he and Ginny would go on vacation with us or visit Topeka Kansas withVirginia and the family. Val was born Februry 23, 1923 in Glengamock, Scotland. He  grew up and was educated in Scotland before coming to the United States.

And when he talked he had a brogue that was wonderful.

Val was an employee of Chrysler Motor Company in Detroit and was probably the reason my family has always, or at least the last 20 years, has always bought new Dodge or Chrysler auto’s or PU’s. Val was able to get us deals. Even now our son Matt is a Finance Manager for a large Chrysler dealer here in Tulsa.

Val and Ginny raised four childen, John (Jack), Ken, Jim and Mary Ann.

November 26, 2009 – Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving dinner this year was help as our place on 23rd Street here in Tulsa. Things started early as Matt and family were also going to Kim’s Family dinner east of Tulsa. With that said, things went ahead with no pictures taken of the Turkey as Matt had it stripped to the bone and on two platters before anyone knew what had happened. Plus the ball game was on TV and the viewing and eating really went on in the den. There was also grips about the TV and the green lines around the people on the screen. I guess that should be anticipated on a set over 20 years old.

Anyway, sorry for the lack of pictures. But with the ‘picture takers’ doing the cooking and some of us on the computer, or leaving early, there was little time for picture taking.

An Update from the Webmaster

November 25th, 2009

This is Kyle, here! As you may have read, there were a few issues with this site after the owner (hi grandpa!) upgraded his PC to the latest software. This revealed a small problem with WordPress (the software that makes this web site work). The only way to fix it: upgrade to the latest version. As with most system upgrades, there have been a few bumps.

The most obvious one for the readers is the unusual absence of the majority of the photographs on this web page. The reason for this is that they were attached in an unusual way that did not follow this software’s standard operation, but which was (and still is, technically) entirely acceptable for the old version. The photos are still on the web server, but have been stripped from the posts by the upgrade process. They were attached by a now-unsupported add-on to this software. I have installed the newest version of this add-on, but have had no luck in resorting the photos to their posts.

It should be possible to re-attached the photos from the on-site manager, but I won’t bore the readers of this site with the technical details thereof. Just know that the photos will be available for viewing by some means as soon as it can be arranged.

For now, I have to go update the support ticket for this issue with this unfortunate news, and then go to bed. It has been a very long day, and as much as I would like to get this fixed right now, I’m about to fall asleep at my computer.

Night!

Around Veterans Day this year, I got a request from Keith Taylor, Marie’s nephew, for pictures of Marie’s  Dad and brother Paul. Keith wanted his Dad and Grandpa picture’s to show them on the air. He is a morning lead Newsman on channel 8 here in Tulsa. Marie and her sister Evelyn found other pictures of their relatives which we send to Keith. I will show all of them here.

Added will be some  pictures of the Loveless side of the family.
