Taylor Reunion 2008 Bill & Evelyn and Family Evelyn, Patty, Marie, Aunt Wilma and Paul

The year will still be without Dick and Shirley, as Dick is still not up to the trip to Oklahoma. Tom and his family were in Missouri as Mary’s baby had to be taken early (six months into pregnancy). But we did have Aunt Wilma Ford from Kansas and her daughter Patty Ford from Kentucky did attend.

There aren’t as many pictures this year. Why? Kyle had to work and he always has 250 plus pictures. Even I had less this year and I’ve yet to get any pictures from Laura or Marie. I’ll start with a few group pictures of those who attended. But even these are in three pictures not in one mass picture that we try to take each year. But these three pictures do show the 40 people attending this years reunion. This was another wet year as we had rain early Saturday morning and all afternoon which played havoc with the group picture and outdoor activities.

June 25, 2008 – Activity

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Not a lot going on around here. We went to a couple of Dustin’s baseball games this week. This is a tourney to end the baseball season. Well, they had lost the first game and are in the losers bracket now but they won last night so they have another game tomorrow.

Got the first part of the mowing completed today. Have to start early as this coming Friday through Sunday we’ll be at the lake with Marie’s family for the annual family reunion. Anyway I’ll get the best part of the balance done tomorrow.

We’ve had 4 days without any rain which is almost a record for this year. Even the tomatoes are looking better. But after the small reprieve, we had another 6/10 inches of rain. I guess it may be time to remove some of the plants that haven’t even bloomed yet. I will probably remove about half of the plants after I get back Sunday.

June 18, 2008 – Another Day

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Well, as if we haven’t had enough rain, we got another 1/2 inch of rain this AM here at the house. But much heavier rain to our west and south (2 1/3 inches). We didn’t have the wind that was up to 65 MPH. If we would have had the wind it might bring down the three limbs still hanging by a thread in two of our tree’s. And we are to have rain again the next two days. I guess we start to work on our building of our ARK.

We’re now 35 inches of rain for the year. That’s 15 inches above normal.

About all you can say about the last few days is its been cold, hot, wet and busy. Lotsa of mowing going on Saturday getting ready for the coming over for fathers day. And a very busy time Sunday with Matt and Laura and families over for home made ice cream (the best in years) and kraut paddies/rolls or whatever you call them. Everyone left about nine last night after watching golf.

But all thru the night we had thunder and rain, at least starting around 2 AM. And its been raining ever since. I know places to our north have had over 5 inches but we’re at about 2 inches here at the house.

Here are a few of the pictures from yesterday.

This has been a very bad year for the weather in general. It started in December with the ice storm which is just now winding down from the picking up of the dead limbs and stuff. Then we went into lotsa rain, some snow, a little more ice and the winds. And the areas around town continues to look bad. Not all home owners care a lot about how the yards look so things can and get to looking badly. The area around the Tulsa metro area has been addressing flooding also.

We are now at 32 inches plus rain for the year. That’s just a few inches from the all-time record for rain and we still have aover half a year to go.

Here are some of the pictures I’ve taken just around the house just covering the first 10 days of June.

Just to let you know. We’ve tried to bring down these limbs but we just can’t get them to fall. Now the reason we can’t get them down is that the limbs are 20 to 30 feet off the ground. We now await the tree guys for the third trip in the past year.

May 14, 2008 – Karen’s Garage

Many years ago when the Karen and Steve Johnson family was just starting, they moved into a house here in Tulsa. Its in a great part of town, one of those great areas that costs just about $50,000 above normal because it is located in this ritzy part of town. Anyway, part of the house, I should say the part detached, a garage, was really not in that good of shape. It was leaning a little to the west and to the north then.

But it has gotten worse over the years. We, Karen, Kyle, Marie and I started addressing the garage late in 2007. Some of this effort is shown in pictures showing the bracing of the garage and cleaning it out. I was leading the effort to bring the structure down with the help of other family members. We had a dumster ordered and tools from a local rentall were signed up for. But “they” (whomever “they” are) had someone come in to look at what it would take to bring the garage down and “they” said it was something that should only be handled by professionals.

Accordingly I wasn’t allowed to address the problem. What with the December 2007 ice storms and subsequent rain and wind storms this year, nothing was accomplished. But a few months ago, a neighbor turned in Karen to the city for limbs hanging in her trees and as a result of that inspection, they saw the garage. They said the garage must come down.

Its now down thanks to a local contractor. These pictures show some, if not most of this effort.
