December 2009 – Christmas In Tulsa

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Well, we finally got around to Christmas here in Tulsa on Sunday the 27th. All the Tulsa or surrounding area families were able to get into the old homestead, except for Katlyn, who was iced in west of Skiatook. We had some watching football, a great dinner, then opening of gifts. Then there were games, poker and general goofing off  until evening.

One of the pictures is Matt getting a “Fighting Robots Thing”. He got a similar gift some 30 Plus years ago and Mark broke it. Anyway, he’s happy again.

Paul Taylor With Carolina Families – 2007 or 2008

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I saw the picture below of the Taylor Family Grandpa, Paul that is, on Facebook. I’m sure it was taken a year or two ago when Paul went back east to visit the girls and there families. I copied it off and I’m posting it out on the BLOG as I think it’s a great picture. I certainly want to get a better copy of the picture so I can blow it up without it looking grainey. The Facebook pictures usually don’t get the detail we like to get because it would take up to much on-line space.

Hope Season or Brandis or even Cammion sends me the picture. I’ll send it back.

December 2009 – Martin Kids (Two of Them)

Monday, December 28th, 2009

We got a note from Kenny (I think he probably wants to be called Ken) Martin via Facebook the other day and I captured the picture of Ken and sent it on to the kids (our kids). I looked up on my bulletin board and saw a picture taken sometime in the late 60′s of our four kids and Jack and Ken. It was taken in Topeka at Mom’s house off 10th street.

Anyway, below you will find those pictures.

December 2009 – Picture Of Marie’s Parents

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Marie found a picture of a very young Bill and Evelyn Taylor, her parents, the other day. A great picture from the 20′s or 30′s??

Christmas 2009 (?????)

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Well it’s the 26st of December and still no exchanging of gifts. The highway are generally open and passable but the side streets are a mess. Streets are iced over and cars are stalled, and many cases have just been left in the spot where they got stuck. It may be impossible to get any exchanging of gifts or just visit anyone before Monday or Tuesday. If that’s what happens, we may, as stated by Matt this AM, wait until January 3rd, as this is the date Alexis will be celebrating her birthday.

I will show you some pictures of the decorations Marie has in the homestead.

December 2009 – Alexis School Assembly

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Alexis 2nd grade class (I should say class(es)) held the first half of the year assembly on December 11.  A lot of singing and parents and grand-parents running around taking picture. I have a few here.

December 24th and 25th Weather

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Well, a lot of people always want a white Christmas. Not me.

We had rain starting early on the 24th which changed to sleet around noon and then changed to snow a couple of hours later. Tulsa airport reported 6 inches of snow but I now believe we had a few more inches than the airport. My observation of more snow comes after a day of moving the snow off the driveway. We had winds of 35 to 45 MPH here in Tulsa and temperatures down to 18. An old time blizzard.

Well anyway, we didn’t have a normal Christmas. Everyone was snowed in as highways and streets were blocked or closed. So Marie and I spent the second Christmas in 50 years without the kids. The first Christmas without the kids was the first Christmas after we were married. Anyway, we have  reschedule for Sunday December 27th. Hopefully the wind will stop blowing the snow around and the temperature will get above freezing by Sunday.

My day was spent moving snow off the driveway as you can see in the pictures blow. I’ll feel the shoveling tomorrow.

These first pictures were taken early this morning.

November 26, 2009 – Thanksgiving

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

The full-size copies of 3 photos in this post are missing, so clicking them opens a “Not Found” page. They were lost from the blog years ago, before this copy was made. If you have any of them, please send them to genealogy@kyle.engineer.

The Thanksgiving dinner this year was help as our place on 23rd Street here in Tulsa. Things started early as Matt and family were also going to Kim’s Family dinner east of Tulsa. With that said, things went ahead with no pictures taken of the Turkey as Matt had it stripped to the bone and on two platters before anyone knew what had happened. Plus the ball game was on TV and the viewing and eating really went on in the den. There was also grips about the TV and the green lines around the people on the screen. I guess that should be anticipated on a set over 20 years old.

Anyway, sorry for the lack of pictures. But with the ‘picture takers’ doing the cooking and some of us on the computer, or leaving early, there was little time for picture taking.

October 2009

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Not a lot of goings on this month, at least from a blog and picture approach. The big problem was my computer going down. It couldn’t print or write disks and many times would not run at all. After a couple of trips to the shop, the problem was found in the mother board. The cost to repair was really to high, so a new computer was needed, after a back-up of all the data I could get backed up. This required about 100 CD’s as the operating system I was using would not allow me to write to DVD.

Being reasonably intelligent, I thought abetter way was to get the computer company I as going to get a new computer from should transfer the data for me. They agreed. Six days they had both the old and new computers, and could only transfer 2 GB from the old to the new computer. Reason – Best Buy had forgot to initialize the drive in the new computer. Grandson Kyle Johnson came back from Stillwater and 6 hours and 15 minutes later, most of the data, 136 SB, was transfered. I still have some early pictures fro 2002 to 2007 that will eventually be added to the new system.

The step up from the old computer to the new computer was from XP to Vista. What a mess. Then Best Buy was to upgrade the new computer to Window7, a freebee.  When getting the new computer home, it would not open at all. Back to Best Buy and no luck at all. Then to the “AKTECK” computer shop who found the problem in the virus software that came with the new computer.

I was when able to start reloading software I would need. This was really a task I didn’t really like because it had to deal with the new Windows7 system and almost none of it worked without new down-loads. In some cases I had to repurchase some software as the company had no record of my purchases of down-loadable software. I’ve now learned not to get anymore down-loadable software, they now have to ship it to me.

Anyway this all took the most part of October and the first half of November to get to where I am. I still have computers to move but hopefully most of the work is done. I’m still trying to get the BLOG up to date, and that will take a few more days. A lot of the items will continue to show IN WORK until that’s accomplished.

By the way, the BLOG’s speller isn’t working, for one reason or another. I’m waiting for a fix now.
