February 2008 – Tree Work

February 14th, 2008

Finally yesterday, the tree people showed up to clean-up the trees and to get rid of all the extra “tree trash” not previously picked up by the city. Now we are ready for spring and the leafing out of the trees to see what might be left. We still have gutter and fence damage to get repaired. Plus the gutters are over 20 years old, so we may have to take down all the gutter. This would allow for some repair of some of the wood backing plus allow for painting which really needs to be done. Lot of work around the homestead.

February 2008 – Dustin’s 8th Birthday

February 14th, 2008

Laura and Steve held the family “party” for Dustin’s 8th Birthday (February 11) on Sunday the 10th. A party after school on the 8th was also held. Below are some of the pictures taken by Kyle and Bud at the Sunday Party.

February 2008 – In Like A Bang!

February 5th, 2008

The weather this early February has been unbelievable. The 3rd it got up to 75 to be followed the next day by 81. The 81 was a record for the date beating the 76 set in 1962. But things are to get back to normal on the 6st with rain and maybe snow over night today.

January 31, 2008 – Snow ?

February 1st, 2008

Well, the weather people were saying from 4 to 8 inches of snow for us on Thursday January 31. Well we got about 2 1/2 to 3 inches here in this part of town. The heavy stuff was to our north about 30 miles or so. They did say that it would all melt here in the city today. The pictures below were taken about noon and its only 29 degrees outside so I rather doubt that we’ll get rid of the stuff until tomorrow or Sunday, super bowl day. – Bud

January 29, 2008 – Almost Cleaned Up

January 29th, 2008

Believe it or not, I finally got “the tree people” over today and they gave me an estimate on addressing the trees damaged by the ice storm. I don’t know when they will get around to the effort, but I approved what they are to do and the cost. Now if we can get the trees trimmed and all the new “stuff” hauled away, all this before the end of February, we’ll be in good shape for spring.

2008 January – Not So Bright People

January 18th, 2008

The “not so smart people” we have around here are probably like all “weather people” around the country. They seem to have to be at the center of all activities no matter if it has to do with the weather or whatever. One is so bad that they spend about 10 minutes per day telling everyone that they are the most accurate of all weathermen (weather-women also).

Now last Wednesday they predicted (every station I saw) that we would have 1 to 2 inches of snow over night. Well, you can hardly say we had snow like that. What we had is pictured below.

2008 January – As of January 14th

January 16th, 2008

This is a picture of the final load of tree limbs being loaded to the city hired truck that was picking up the limbs that fell during the December 10 thru December 12 dates. There is still a problem in getting limbs out of the trees that have broken off but are caught in the remaining limbs. We have had the insurance adjuster out and we have about $1,390 in damage but with $1,000 in deductability so we got only $390. The fence and guttering along with the rain gauge will eat up a lot more than the $390 bucks we got.

2008 January – Our New Friend

January 16th, 2008

This is a picture(s) of our new friend. This hawk has been seen a number of times over the past two weeks and I’ve been able to get a few pictures. Unfortunately I don’t really have a way to zoom in on something this far away. I really need a better camera or a camcorder that takes pictures using the 30 or 40 power. Maybe I’ll get such a camcorder in the next few month’s to take to Ireland.
